Scouting is adventure, family, fun, character, leadership and so much more.
In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

Pack Meetings (all kids) happen once a month. At these meetings, we do fun group activities and hand out the advancements earned since the last meeting.
Den meetings (grade level groups) happen 1-2x per month. At Den Meetings kids work on their adventure activities together.
There are a few components of Cub Scout costs:
1) Scouting America National & Adventure West Council (register online, ~$170)
This pays for curriculum development, full-time scout employees, local scout camps (which we use!!), and leader training. To register and pay this fee, go to https://my.scouting.org/online-registration/bb56efdc-5824-4139-a20a-4f1746f6483f/applicant-type.
2) Lafayette Cub Scout Pack 79 ($250 total, fundraising available to offset all or part of the cost)
These dues and fundraising dollars include:
All Pack Meeting activities, Pinewood Derby materials, and awards
Neckerchief and slide
Achievement belt loops/patches
Spring camping trip (all food and campsite rental fees)
Food/venue rentals
We will run one fundraiser in the fall and may run another in the Spring. We encourage your scout to try to earn back all or part of their dues. Some families have told us they prefer not to fundraise, so we've made that more straightforward.

Option 3 - Pay online using a credit card at https://pack-79-dues.cheddarup.com (there is an $8 fee)
3) Uniform (~$50)
Lion Scouts (Kindergarten) - optional t-shirt
Tigers, Wolves, Bears (1-3 grade) - blue Class A uniform, belt (for advancement belt loops)
Webelos, Arrow of Light (4-5 grade) - tan Class A uniform (boys, girls)
4) October "Haunted Weekend" Campout at Camp Jack Nicol
This is, by far, one of the highlights of our Cub Scout year.
In prior years, Pack Dues covered this event for 1 scout and 1 adult. Last year the price increased ($55 per scout, $40 per adult, plus $10/night to camp), and not all families were able to attend. Most of those who did attend chose to pay for additional parents or siblings, which we collected centrally. Without a treasurer (would you like to fill the role?) it became very burdensome to handle this centrally. This event will be paid for separately this year.
We don't want the expense of Scouting to stop people from joining. If you need financial assistance, please let us know!
We don't sell popcorn, but do organize a fundraiser in the fall (October) or your family can fundraise on their own.
